MSF Nutritional Nurse Vacancy in Sokoto

The Nutritional Nurse’s core responsibility is to provide nursing care, treatment, and follow-up for children suffering from severe malnutrition, in line with MSF’s Therapeutic Feeding Programme (TFP) protocols — covering Inpatient Therapeutic Feeding Care (ITFC), Ambulatory Therapeutic Feeding Care (ATFC), and Supplementary Feeding Programmes (SFP). The goal is straightforward but demanding: ensure good delivery of care and measurably improve each child’s nutritional condition.

Main Accountabilities

The role covers a wide range of clinical and administrative responsibilities, including:

• Implementing universal hygiene standards, security rules, and nursing/nutrition protocols at all times
• Ensuring the Therapeutic Program runs properly — tracking daily admissions, exits, and attendance
• Calculating the quantity of food needed each day based on the number of registered children
• Triaging patients in waiting areas, identifying priority acute cases, and providing first aid before referring to a doctor when necessary
• Handling admission-related tasks: weighing and measuring children, identifying the type and degree of malnutrition, and completing patient documentation
• Conducting consultations with children and parents, including full clinical examinations, nutritional surveillance forms, milk cards, and required vaccinations
• Monitoring patients’ medical and nutritional progress and flagging possible emergencies to doctors
• Educating families about hospitalization and supporting maternal health education
• Controlling pharmacy, food, and medical equipment — including inventory checks and monitoring for expired drugs
• Managing administrative documentation, handovers, and reporting of problematic cases
• Performing minor maintenance and cleaning of biomedical equipment, alerting supervisors to any malfunction
