Following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, NANNM rejected a recent government circular on health workers’ allowances, calling it “grossly inadequate and discriminatory” for failing to honor the sacrifices of Nigeria’s nursing workforce.

Signed by National President Comrade Nurse Haruna Mamman and General Secretary Dr. T. A. Shettima, the NEC’s communiqué voiced deep frustration with the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) circular. Despite ongoing engagements with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, critical demands remain unmet, leaving nurses and midwives feeling undervalued

NANNM warned that if these demands are not addressed by July 29, 2025, a 7-day warning strike will begin, potentially disrupting healthcare services across Nigeria. The association called on President Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Health, the National Assembly, and the public to act swiftly to prevent this crisis, stressing that quality healthcare depends on fair treatment and support for nurses.
